I need FF2 with a fairly clean profile for my work as a developer, but I use FF3 (non-portable) for normal stuff (like mainly gmail). I've been unable to get FF2 portable to start when FF3 is still running. It beeps at me and says "Another instance of Firefox is already running...".
Is there a way to disable this check so that I can keep FF2 loaded to do work and still run FF3 with all my plugins? It seems like since FF2 is "portable" that this check is pretty useless.
Thx in advance.
Go into the Other Folder and go to source and copy and paste the FirefoxPortable.ini file to the place where the FirefoxPortable executable is. Then open it with Notepad and Find the Line that says "AllowMultipleInstances." Change the Line from False to True. But be warned, this prevents the Portable Version from cleaning its self off the host computer, so use it only when the Computer belongs to you. And Thats how you do it. Good Luck
Seems like it should work, but it doesn't. Same error. Do I need to change that setting in my FF3 (non-portable) instance as well?
I did change C:\Program Files\FirefoxPortable\Other\Source\FirefoxPortable.ini as you can see below.
[FirefoxPortable]
FirefoxDirectory=App\firefox
ProfileDirectory=Data\profile
SettingsDirectory=Data\settings
PluginsDirectory=Data\plugins
FirefoxExecutable=firefox.exe
AdditionalParameters=
LocalHomepage=
DisableSplashScreen=false
AllowMultipleInstances=true
Did you place it in:
[x]:\Path\FirefoxPortable\
i.e.
[x]:\Path\FirefoxPortable\FirefoxPortable.ini
Things have got to get better, they can't get worse, or can they?
No, but when I did, it worked fine. Sorry, I missed that part of your initial reply.
Life is good again!
Thanks!
That also works when you have a standard Firefox installation and want to launch Firefox Portable (installed on your hard drive) when the standard Firefox installation is already running.
