How do I get TB to trigger for an update? Firefox did this right away, and I haven't had any issues with it, but TB won't update. I don't want to try to install the regular install program to the portable folder.

I have had disasters with auto-updates for Port TB and it is not recommended by others.
Just install the latest version and copy over your old Profile folder and you are done.
What I do is after install, rename my folder from "Portable Thunderbird" to just "PT".
When you install the new version you then have two folders.
Copy the old Profile to "PortableThunderbird".
