Is there any pre-requirements before you can add a personal picture? I'm not able to add any picture as with any picture I try, I get the same error message: "JPEG error#53"
This really driving me up to the wall. details of the image is as follows; this size is 2.8KB, the dimensions 48 x 48 and the image format is .jpg
I have tried different images, with different names but all are cropped/resized to 48 x 48 size. The image is saved in the Pictures folder of my PortableApps USB memory stick I use the latest version of the platform - 1.1
What am I doing wrong here? The application description states: "Personal Picture - Now you can personalize the menu with your own personal picture in the upper right corner. Any 48x48 bitmap or JPG will work. Just click it to set it."
Or is there more to it that I'm missing?
Generally, this means the JPG image is partially corrupt or has some non-standard stuff added to it by whatever program you're using to save it. What program are you using? Did you try saving it as a BMP (which doesn't support extra stuff added)?

the pictures showing error 53 show no error in my PAM, so perhaps you should reinstall the PAM 1.1 to overcome problems with a corrupted menu.Else your pictures should be converted to jpg or bmp for windows not only resized (someone posted such a problem after"converting" a gif to jpeg by resizing and simply changing the suffix).

I use Microsoft Office Picture Manager (Win XP Pro SP3, Office 2003 Pro SP3) to resize and/or crop images. All my images/photos on my PC are in the .jpg format and I've tried various images; all with the same resultant error code. I then followed the advice mentioned above. I opened that same image I had problems with, using the trusted old MS Paint, then simply re-saved it as a .bmp image. Moved it back to the Pictures folder on my PA pen drive, then re-added the image again and Bob's your Uncle.
How weird is that? Seeing as it's the same image as the one I had the problem with originally now it works fine as a .bmp
Anyway, thanks for the pointers guys, it's now working as it should!
PS. The image I use is the exact same one I use as my avatar on this site.
I just resized a picture with MS Office Picture Manager and it worked fine with the menu. Maybe there's something up with your install or one of the shared graphics libraries on your PC.
