My Project

Well, I was working on a little "Project" of mine but it was ruined when my cousin decided to use my computer and just so happened to get a virus that wiped out my machine. He decided that my security software was making the computer run too slow so he closed all of it. Yea...

Anyway, the project may have been useful to someone out there. What I was doing was going through the forums and creating a list of each and every app that has ever been requested. Under the name of each app, I would put the info about the app and then, if it were rejected, name the reasons why it can't be made portable here. I had a pretty good size list, too. All I had left to do was compile the websites because a few had either changed or weren't listed in the original post.

So that's my little story that I thought I would share will all of you. If I work up the patience to attempt that again, I will do so and post it somewhere within the forum. Until then, I will restore my computer back to the way it was.

Sorry to hear about that! But WAIT before you reformat...

Is it actually wiped out, or has the OS been too corrupted to boot?
If it's only a corrupted OS, you might be able to recover your files!

1st: get Knoppix - it's a Live Linux distribution that you can download for free (of course you'll need another computer with broadband - but since you are posting, you must have something...)
It comes as an ISO file, which you can burn onto a CD.
2nd: Boot from that CD, and you will be in a fully functional operating system that can recognize CD-burners and flash drives, as well as having access to your C: drive.

3rd: You should then be able to browse your C: drive and copy your files to a flash drive.

Be aware that for your protection, Knoppix flags all drives as read-only, so you need to change that for the flash drive.
It takes a bit of twiddling, right-clicking on the drive icon and such, but you should be able to change it to read-write.

Knoppix has pulled me out of a jam like this many times.

Hope I got you in time!

Good luck!

I made this half-pony, half-monkey monster to please you.

Oh, how I wish it were that

Oh, how I wish it were that simple. No, the Vundo virus decided to erase files. It actually erased my music first, then after that, each file I accessed was removed. My music was backed up. I have no way of recovering that file. I even tried Recuva and Restoration but to no avail.

Failure is not an option. It comes bundled with Windows.

Ah, u got hit with Vundo....i spent 16 straight hours with a friend's computer trying to clean it up... he was able to back up his school work and music before they got trashed, and we had to reformat to get rid of the virus.

Yea I downloaded VundoFix

Yea I downloaded VundoFix from MajorGeeks but it was an outdated version apparently because the one that is hosted on the Atribune website was a newer version. Either that, or the one from MajorGeeks was the distribution from Symantec and not the one from Atribune. Either way, it didn't find the Vundo virus and I had to backup what I could and then reformat.
