A script or plugin to set the download directory in firefox

I tried to download a program with firefox portable and it is a nightmare getting to the firefox directory. I want a script or plug-in that sets the download directory (folder)to X:\firefoxportable\downloads\ where X=usb drive letter or better yet saves the path as a .ini file , Floyd

no script needed

Go to Tools→Options...→Main:Downloads, select "Save files to" and browse to your desired folder. The FirefoxPortable launcher automatically updates the drive letter throughout the prefs.js file (where your download preference is saved) before launching Firefox.

Ask

At the same place in the menu, you can also simply set it to 'ask' where to save your download.

It is always nice to have options!

Default

"Ask" is the default as it made the most sense (defaulting to desktop isn't very portable, but defaulting to a directory on the drive is a bad idea as while you're downloading on a slow flash drive the writing makes using the apps slow). I believe the original FF3 Beta wasn't set to ask but the current RC is.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

I'd have to agree...

"Ask" is the default as it made the most sense

Especially for portable Firefox, but I have my local copy set to Ask as well because I categorize downloads under my standard destination. Yep, there's a PortableApps folder under there. Smile

But...

That doesn't work if the drive letter changes.
Personally I'd like to know as well, as I'd like to set it up in a simaler way.
(X:\Documents\Downloads\)

You Try?

Did you try, or are you assuming. I'm quite sure if this is in the .js preference file, the drive letter will be changed.
