Apps that require taking over

Hi all, as most of you know I have had a few apps here over the past 2+ years. These are:

Blender, CamStudio, EasyTAG, Gnumeric, Planner, Python, Battle of Wesnoth, Wink (Launcher) & WorkRave.

Well after deliberation I open up the following for anyone interested to take over as time issues are hampering me and a few core applications I want to spend more focus on.

EasyTAG, Gnumeric, Python, Battle of Wesnoth & WorkRave.

I am currently getting Blender ready for a new development release and then will be updating CamStudio and Planner to the latest development specs. Wink will be revisited at a more appropriate date. Planner will eventually be replaced by OpenProj when java can be provided as previous discussions.

I hope someone out there would like to give the above apps their love and attention.

I too need to find my apps a new "home". These puppies need to be adopted, any takers?

They were all in testing at some point, but never made it to a "release" level mainly due to the PortableApps launcher code changing during testing and me not being able to figure out how to hack my code into the framework. AFAIK, all the copying, deleting, backing up, etc ("portabalizing") is all taken care of. You just need to meld it into the new launcher structure.

If you adopt an app, you'll need to try and maintain it for one year (another new unofficial "standard" I can't comply with).

Here's the list of apps up for adoption:

GNUBackgammonPortable
OpenYahtzeePortable
TexterPortable
WormuxPortable

Search the forum for those apps or there's links for all the apps on this page (except for Texter): http://cubegames.net/development/current_projects

For the adopter, I can make an archive available to you of my build structure for that app. That reminds me, some of these apps may need to be updated to the new installer build structure too (not hard to accomplish).

I'll take

I wouldn't mind taking on a few more apps right now.
tanisthalon: I'll take Workrave, if I can get a copy of the portable version you did. The download doesn't work.
BuddhaChu: Also, I can take over Wormux.
I'm on very slow WiFi right now (not good for downloading anything over a few Mb's), so if you guys can email me the stuff from your versions, that would be great. My address is on my User Page.

Also

I guess I could take over texter portable too. It's easy.
So just give me a final confirmation here that I can take over Workrve, Wormux, and Texter, and I'll start working on them.
Thanks.

Yes that's fine. I hope you enjoy developing/supporting Workrave Portable.

I'm working on "setting you

I'm working on "setting you up right" by updating Wormux to v0.8 and optimizing the PNGs and EXE/DLLs. They added 15 new maps to the latest version so this time I want to get all the PNGs optimized and then send a copy back to the Wormux devs so they can (hopefully) be incorporated into their build system. I'm also hooking you up with my "build system" to include the optimizers/compressors used and four batrch files. You're getting the keys to the castle. Smile

When all that's finished, I'll post a URL for you to download from my webserver. PNG compression will take a while.

I thought he was keeping that

I thought he was keeping that himself.

It's a shame he's letting Blender go because that application would be another 'big name' release for PortableApps. (It was even announced to get oficially released...)

Does this mean we have to get apps out officially at a higher pace? Some apps have been in 'developement test' for as long as I can remember. Personally I feel that some applications are orphaned due to the timespan.

BTW, are all these apps still available for download?

Now I couldn't be a culprit of any of those, could I? Wink

Honestly, I hate to see an app sitting in the dev forum for eons, especially one of mine, but I know I'll have time to work on them.
I'm not sure, but afaik you might have some trouble downloading a few of these.

Updated version

I'd love to see an updated version of Wesnoth. The newer versions of the game are fairly big. The .ogg files would have be compressed a bit, and all the .png files as well.

Nihilism makes me smile.

If I can weight in with a totally uninvited opinion...

I think Gluxon as Kai is already developing 5 different apps. This way he can focus on finishing them before taking on new projects. Many of your apps (Kai) seem like they only need a few more touches so maybe get them up to standard and to official status before taking on more work otherwise you'll likely make it harder for yourself.
