Need help with tranfering drupal site to new host...

ok, im trying to transfer drupal from comphost.info to 000webhost.com, I have looked at many tutorials to do this, but it never works, I edit the settings.php, to get it to work, I inputed the necessary information. Is there other things I need to edit to get drupal to work on another host? Just wondering so I can do that and see if I get the same error as before.

Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't

In theory, you could upload a fresh install of Drupal to the ftp server, and then import a backup of the mysql database to the new one. Maybe it doesn't work, maybe you tried it already, but I have no better idea.

BTW: It looks a good host. Please give us more info about it while you go on with it.

(also, I found out that the comphost server does not work with elinks, a text-mode browser. I was testing site quality).

Also,

can you please tell me if they ask for your physical address?

On their signup page they do

On their signup page they do not have a physical address question.

Also: A few questions for when Nathan9222 has your site back up on new server:

Does it have clean URLs support?
Can you set up cron tasks (or need to use poormanscron anyway)?
Does it allow you to access exterior websites, so drupal can automatically check for updates?
Is it stable, does it get on "maintenance" (redirect to a blog of some sort that is not our site) like comphost?
Are you annoyed enough with my questions already? Biggrin

EDIT: Does it have PHPmyAdmin? Does it force advertising?

Lol

It would take about 10000 more questions for me to get annoyed (I am very good at not being annoyed. :D)

Have seen some answers on

Have seen some answers on site and I am satisfied.

Now I would reallllllly like to know if it has that HTTP send request problem, like comphost; and if it has that problem with that redirect sometimes, like comphost.

(and luckily I have so few things that all I need is to copy some pages, no moving databases, restart from scratch Biggrin )

it probably wont work...

because you set up your current site for that server and host, best bet is to do what PTMB said and freshly install and change only the differences. thogh i dont see why you want to move.

**Edit** Althogh that article that digitxp found looks like it might make it possable.

Better is always better

Bigger bandwidth, bigger disk space, cron jobs support, NO ADS (this is for you sergentsiler Biggrin ), automatic install of drupal (although I will probably install it on old fashioned way if I pass to that host), has lots of stuff and a nice panel (I tried the demo).

Check:

250Mg Disk SPace
100Gb Bandwidth
NO ads (unless you want your own ads)
Cron jobs (so no poormanscron is needed)
Maybe we can check for Drupal updates
NO ADS!
Automatic installer
NO ADS!
And did I say already NO ADS!!!? Biggrin

well.....

shut up you!!! Blum

orgfree isnt that bad and you have yet to provide me with a host that can geet 10 massive Terabytes of monthly trafic, Terabyte, with a "T". also, as i have said, i dont mind the forced ads as long as they dont massively screw up my site. and that is Terabyte with a FREAKIN "T"!!! no one has showed me one host that gets even close to that much. and BTW, a Terabyte is 1000 Gb not a measly 100. Ok, Ok

But we're all a bunch of kids. Do we need the 'Freakin "T"!!!'? Maybe this site needs, but we won't barely need, if we need, that time we will have so much money, that we could buy our own server and host provider Blum

EDIT: And did anyone else noticed that this thread got severelly hijacked? Blum

EDIT2: Would it be possible to install Google Apps for Your Domain on our domains, so we don't have to use their awfully bloated e-mail clients?...

Yeah...

This new host is way better than comphost, I believe everything works great unlike the comphost one where it has some errors. U can even change colors for themes that can be made a different color. I dont know y comphost.info blocks so many things. Ok just a though, would it be possible just to copy over my users and theirs settings? Cause it wont take me too long to do the rest, like add forums, etc. I think u will be more than satisfied with 00webhost.com, its way better than comphost, very easy to use, and yes u can have it do cron jobs which is probably a necessity. Also they dont ask very many questions to register, I think it is your desired name for your site, then a password, I dont remember it asking for anything else.
Edit:Just to answer your question, it has everything comphost has and then a lot of other things, yes it does allow access to exterior websites to get updates. and cron jobs can be set to run from the control panel, there are so many new features it would be hard to list them all. Also thanks digitxp for the link, ill check that out and see if that helps.

Thanks!

Thanks, I will probably move to 00webhost.com, maybe we can even convince sergentsiler to move instead of having an ads bloated site Wink . I will make an account and start working as soon as possible.

BTW: When can we see your site there? Wink

Thanks, and to you too

Thank you for your encouragement, I am actually making the same, only will make new account there when I am sure of all. I wish you luck too, and if you need help don't hesitate in asking. Wink

BTW, I think there is already a new smilies module (or the old one was updated) for drupal 6 that can be used in here (I think it is even possible to apply custom smile themes).

I found out

I found out:

In .htaccess replace:

  # Rewrite URLs of the form 'index.php?q=x'.
  RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
  RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
  RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?q=$1 [L,QSA]

with:

  # Rewrite URLs of the form 'index.php?q=x'.
  RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
  RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
  RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /index.php?q=$1 [L,QSA]

And is it me or you're always wanting to change host? Blum

Woks...

The above works like a charm. Haha I guess you could say that, I just have links to many hosts so I can keep my choices wide.

Is any....

Is anyone else having problems creating menus? I am it keeps saying the following error. Validation error, please try again. If this error persists, please contact the site administrator. This happens everytime I want to save my settings for the menu items I added and enabled. Is anyone having these same problems.

Before sergentsiler comes saying our hosts suck...

Ok, 000webhost.com is having some server problems, so sites may be inaccessible, they have all explained on their forums. It is only temporary until they have their servers back up (so don't complain siler Biggrin ).

All is explained on here.
