Yes

Extract TrueCrypt or install it onto your computer. Open the TrueCrypt .exe and click the tools button on the top. Click traveler disk set up. This allows you to install a portable (not portableapps, mind you) but a portable version of truecrypt onto the root of your removable device. You will have to create your own volume file, any file will work, truecrypt changes this into a truecrypt volume anyway, but
everything else is included. There is a how to, on setting this up on truecrypts website.

Quite True

This is how the traveler mode is set up, HOWEVER, you MUST have admin rights to the box you wish to use it on. A regular user will not be able to use this, unless true crypt is already installed on the pc or he has admin rights, which we all know they don;t.. ADMIN RIGHTS is needed.

Non-admin privileges

If you do not have admin privileges on a given computer, be aware (as has already been said) that you cannot run TrueCrypt in "traveler mode."

However, if you find yourself in that position, you may wish to try TCExplorer: http://sourceforge.net/projects/tcexplorer, and for details about using it as a portable app, try: http://sourceforge.net/projects/tcexplorer/. It is "Portable software to import, export, delete, rename, view, edit and execute files in TrueCrypt containers," and only writes settings to the folder containing the application.

TCExplorer

Be careful, TCExplorer can't handle volumes created with TrueCrypt 5.0 and up.

Yikes!

Wow, thanks for that heads up! ...I didn't know that (important) little detail!

Can you point to any documentation, or have you had personal experience with that?

Nope

It seems the TCExplorer project discontinued, so official documentation can't be found. I've read it here: http://portablefreeware.com/?id=1311 than I've tried. Does not work :(.

Sorry!

Wow... that's my mistake then. I'm sorry for the bad info.
