Portable Firefox from CD

I loaded firefox onto a cd by dragging it from my mac mini desktop, but then it it wouldn't run from the cd. Nor would any of the portable programs I put on the cd...such as portable camino, or vlc. Says they can't can be started on a "locked volume". Can anyone tell what went wrong? Maybe they had to be configured before being put on disk. What is this locked volume thing? I called Apple and they couldn't figure it out, and actually told me to find out from this board, and then let them know.

so there it is..a question by me, but also the mighty team at apple.

Thanks in advance.

Yes,

What is this locked volume thing?
A volume that FFP can't write to, in this case the CD.
Even if it's a CDRW that windows can write to, it's locked as far as FF is concerned.
