I have a Kingston 8GB flash drive. The total space available (not free, just available to put data on)is 7.44GB. In the PortableApps.com Menu, the indicator at the bottom says "7.2GB free of 7GB", thought it should say 7.44GB or 8GB.

My USB drive is 3.73GB FAT32-formated, but show 4GB in the space meter
but I read in a post here, somewhere, that the drive capacities aren't exactly accurate. The companies round up or down, some how. Tim Clark, a moderator here explained it in detail. But all of my drives aren't right either. My 80 gb hdd is actually in the neighborhood of 75-76 gb, and my 4 gb flash is only 3.89 gb in size. I guess it's easier to say 4 gb flash than to say a 3.89 gb, when your advertising them.
I think the difference that you can see on your stuff is because the manufacturers take a GB to be 1000 MB but the computer has a GB as 1024 (2^10) MB so the size the computer displays will be about 97% of the advertised size
manufacturers always take 1 GB = 1000 MB for easy calculations
therefore a 80 GB drive will actually contain
(80*1000*1000)/(1024*1024)=76.2939453125 GB Exactly
they do it so the drives seem larger
On top of using 1GB = 1000MB, the file allocation table use a percentage of the drive, which slightly reduce the space of the files.
I think we're missing the point here: "7.2GB free of 7GB", he has more free space than total space. I installed v1.1 on my hard drive and it detected and showed the size properly. What version of PAM are you using?
I am using version 1.1 (according to the about box).
lists itself at 7GB. Though I know I've got about 7.47 GB of usable space. But them's the breaks.
