What affects portability?

I use Mozilla products. (Firefox and Thunderbird) but their portable versions so i can have everything gathered to a folder.

Anyway what i would like to know is what affects portability,in case i decide to take them on flash drive and use them on an internet cafe.

For example I've set them both as default programs.Firefox for browsing and Thunderbird for mail.Is that information stored on the programs or is there a record made in the registry for the portable instances?

Cause if i use them on another computer and follow a mailto link will it open with my portable Thunderbird,or an html link will it open with my version of Firefox?

Other than that how can i specify folders relative to the flash drive for download purposes?Cause drive name may differ to each computer according to letters that are available and i cant set a fixed letter.

a few suggestions

@1: portability is affected by non-portable addons (e.g. scrapbook - if you use a local folder for storage), ff / tb use absolute paths , so some of your addons won´t work correctly - but the most will do a fine job)
@2 setting tb and ff portable as default writes to the registry and affects portability - you leave things behind etc
@3url/mailto refer to the default clients, you could bypass that problem by simultaneously opening both browser and mailclient, but that doesn´t work on every machine. Else you could use thunderbrowse addon for thunderbird, editing the settings to open everything in FFP/TB https://addons.mozilla.org/thunderbird/addon/5373
@4difficult- usually set ffP to ask everytime and choose the folder or use a portable download agent - remember the whereto question offers you a second "think again" delay

@1 Well i have lots of addons.Mainly i'm worried about roboform cause it is integrated into firefox but main programm is on my hard drive.

@3 How do you edit the setting with these addon? As far as i can tell from the link, its an addon to view html files from inside thunderbird.

@4 Is there a combo where i can have a portable manager integrated with firefox and set automatically to save inside the flash drive?

so..

@1: I don´t know roboform, but everything not storing the settings within the profile folder might cause difficulties when changing the drive letter and PC...
did a small research: roboform doesn´t seem to be an addon, the toolbar works like a plugin, not a real extension, depending on a tool on the HDD (=not portable) - alternative keepass portable or Password maker addon for FF, they are really portable.- but.., be aware that using form fillers/password keepers at an internet cafe is not safe!

@3download and install it to tbp, use the button in tb taskbar (right lower corner) to change the settings to your need (it´s almost selfexplanatory)

@4 don´t know your needs respective the downloads, perhaps filezilla portable or fireftp extension (both hosted here) can be a choice
