Hi All,
Can anyone please remind me where I go to disassociate file allocations in XP?
The problem is that once you have associated a portable app with a file and you move the postable app to another drive, Windows does not allow/recognise the new application/association.
I know there is a post here somewhere on how to delete the old associations without editing the registry directly, but I cannot seem to find it.
Thanks
Paul
You'll need a file type manager. You can use XP's builtin utility or a 3rd party app. Here's one I made -
http://sourceforge.net/projects/arketype/
You should also check out PortableFileAssociator for moving your portable file associations around with you.
Thanks I'll give it a try.
I've started to use CafeMod as I keep on changing my drive letter of my portable HDD. So now I want to remove any file associations on the machines I use regularly so that it no longer tries to look for the portable apps.
It also give me the flexibility to still use local apps to open files. Sometimes I just need NotePad and not NotePad++ so picking the file from uses local (machine specific) file associations.
Regards
Paul
I was looking for "Folder Options" in the control panel.
I've been there another of times but forgot the bit where you have to either use the "restore/advanced" button AND then go and delete the (action) association if it still refers to a portable apps.
