Profile has gone in TB, but still is present in the TB folder - how to connect/install it again?

Hi All,

I have a problem with my TB.
I have lost in my TB Portable my profile with all accounts info, mails etc.
But I found all of them in a folder on my portable hard disk.

How can I reconnect/instal/rebuild/reassign my configuration with my TB?

Thanks & Regards
Prof2k

Try this ...

-Close all TB instances!
-rename the folders Data/profile Data/plugins an Data/gpg to other names (eg.
profold and so on)
-copy the folders profile, plugins and (if present) gpg You've found to the
Data folder of Your TB Portable
-start TB Portable, check if all is ok, if Yes delete the old (renamed) folders

That's all!

Hmmmm, Thank, but.... all

Hmmmm,

Thank, but.... all those folders which I found are in the TB folder.
Maybe my short description wasn't clear - all folders are in a TB folder.
It means, that all foders are in the right place (as you described), but TB doesn't "see" it Sad

The only suggestion

I have is:
As its hard to find where the error is that leads Thunderbird into "thinking" you don't have a profile, I suggest you save the Data folder to a safe place and restart from scratch:
Set up the Accounts you had with all the info but don't download the new emails. Now it should work if you copy your old mails into the newly set up Thunderbird.

I've had the same problem

I've had the same problem twice, and I've tried copying over a back-up of the entire ThunderbirdPortable folder, but it is still asking me to create a new account.

Me too, but solved it investigating...

Well, when you open TB account settings, & go to the "local folders account" it have a route written. that error occurs because something makes that route change. if your route there is
D:\PortableApps\ThunderbirdPortable\Data\profile\zsvx94jh.default\Mail\Local Folders
change it to the equivalent route but to your profile folder. It only happened to me twice: 1st when changing from TB to TBportable, & the other when a friend was changing of version from 1.etc to 2.etc & at the same time of OS.

The problem is not caused by portable Edition...

so it can't solve by it.

It is a problem of Mozilla Thunderbird, if the prefs.js is defect for example caused by a crash or something else.

There is a mozillaZine Wiki for this problem:
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Recovering_a_profile_that_suddenly_disappeared

There is a step by step instruction for the restore, if the instruction of EspaÑaks will not work for You.
