I have had VLC installed on my USB drive for quite some time, having downloaded and installed the regular version. It has seemed to work well and I have had no problems. What is the difference between Portable VLC and the regular version I have installed? Will I benefit from deleting the version I have on my flash drive now and installing the portable version?
Thanks!!!
1. Regular VLC will create and use a settings file on the local hard drive of every computer you run it on... which also means it will forget any settings changes you make between PCs.
2. Regular VLC is 34.8MB unzipped -- reducible to 21.1 by removing unnecessary features like ActiveX, http, etc. Portable VLC is 10.2MB installed.

35MB...Yipes.
1. Do you foresee any difficulties with deleting my regular VLC and installing the new Portable VLC? Are there any potential glitches of which I should be aware?
2. I am far from an expert on anything to do with computers, or portable apps, but doesn't Portable Firefox also create a settings file (or some sort of file) on the host computer? I seem to remember reading something about this in a forum but cannot recall.
Thanks so much for your quick reply to my previous question, and for making such wonderful Portable Apps that make my life (especially at work) so much easier.
1. Nope. Go to it.
2. A single pluginreg.dat file. No personal data. There is a workaround in the readme but the cure is worse than the symptom.

Make a userprofile directory within PortableFirefox. But this can make all apps use this. Sometimes you have to restart your computer.

I removed the regular VLC from my drive and installed the portable version. I tried it on my home computer and it seems to work fine. I have not yet tried it on any other machine but do not forsee any difficulties. Thanks for your help!
