[Feature Request] Inline search

Sorry if someone has requested this before, I did search but found no other similar feature requests.

I'm just wondering about the possibility of adding an inline search to the PortableApps.com menu, similar to how Windows Vista's inline search works. Search Indexing could be local to the drive and this would make searching much faster than the host machine's search.

One thing I've gotten used to from using Vista is just pressing the windows key and typing to bring up the file or application I want to run, then hitting return. It would be great if PortableApps.com could introduce something like this, I could press windows key + P and type the name of my app. I'm more of a keyboard heavy user and find that mice slow me down Smile

Note: I've noticed that, since learning the Windows key + P shortcut, there's little keyboard navigation after that. Sure, you can press alt+key to open a folder or something, but there's no up/down arrow support to select an app. I hope that can be added in a future release.

Thanks for a great alternative to the U3 software. I had a U3 drive for a long time and never used it, but I use PortableApps.com almost every day.

I agree with you.

I love the new vista search box in the menu I hardly use the mouse for that either. I believe John has promised (but I'm not sure) that the new menu will have more keyboard shortcuts for finding apps and that stuff. But as far as Search Bar goes I'm not sure anyone has brought it up before. That would be a great addition especcially if it indexed the whole Flash Drive to make it easier to open important files.

LOL

the keyboard jumping thing was my idea :P.
Yes, some techies do despise the mouse, but the keyboard is definetly 10x faster.
