Advantages of having the PortableApps aplication installed?

Just curious. If there is no real advantage then I will remove it for the sake of space(even if it is small)

Interesting issue. But

Interesting issue. But consider this, Portable Applications are very easy to back up and restore or move to another computer or drive without actually removing or reinstalling. And if you back up your apps, you also have the settings kept whenever you (need to) restore it.

I use firefox portable all the time and have not the regular firefox portable 'installed'.

Also I can easlily copy them to usb drive to take them on the road with me.

None

None if you don't use them. And since you're asking the question the impression is you don't.

ok, how about this........I

ok, how about this........I just had to reinstall my C: partitian (kept all my programs and data files on other partitians and they were unaffected).

naturally, I'll have to reinstall certain programs because windows has this dumb registery thing, but because I use a portable Opera as well as other portable programs, I was able to get online and do things Immediately.

If convenience and easy backup of important files isn't a good reason, I don't know what is.

Your were able to get online

Your were able to get online as soon as you reinstalled your C: drive. IE would have been fully functional with the reinstall.

And if your C: drive had been backed up so you could do a restore rather than a reinstall all of your other apps would have been fully functional also.

you missed my pointA) I hate

you missed my point
I hate IE, never use it and in any case I don't have my settings in IE (like passwords and bookmarks, etc). I DO have them in Opera. Even a few in FireFox

plus, I don't have that many programs that HAVE to be "reinstalled". using portable programs gives me options that I can't get with the microsoft doctrine
