sorry to disappoint you, but most of the time that's illegal, or there have the filter up for a good reason, I know ways, but i cannot share them, and I advise against them.

You mean...

You've never heard of FoxyProxy?

Nope. Never. Is there a portable version of it?

it's a FF (or FX which I've been told is actually the correct for Firefox)addon, so it's should be portable as is.

Use a proxy site or a differrent protocal

If SSL isn't blocked, I use a proxy site with SSL (https:// at the beginning of the address). I found them at https://proxy.org/proxies_sorted.shtml.
EDIT: For Gmail, use IMAP or POP through Thunderbird instead of the web app.

which direction?

into a network or out of a closed network?

which protocol or which port is closed?
Or do you mean content filter?

this worked at my old school

But then the IT department had no idea what they were doing:

at the end of a web address, type ".nyud.net:8080" without the quotes... basically a proxy. Haven't had to use that for years though so no promises.
