Hi everyone,
I'd like to have an opensource and also portable app to load CD/DVD images with. Just yesterday I created an image of a CD of mine with InfraRecorder but unluckily I noticed I had no app to load it with.
I'd love to see one of those in here,
best regards
ERDi
No opensource and/or portable 'Alcohol120%' (for example) available?
or 52% which is free & only for loading images or creating mds/mdf's
anyway, this one is portable & works well

As far as I know Virtual CD is neither freeware nor opensource?
Is there no alternative?
There is Acetone wich is FOSS but i think it is linux only.
Can't even find it for download, but year it has to be a windows app for me
and anyone know a linux emulator, like the opposite of wine, do you?
A native Windows app sounds better to me, unluckily it doesn't seem as if there does exist one of that kind
How about VCDControlTool. It can be downloaded from Microsoft at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/916902
I don't know if this can be made portable in any way, but it is a M$ application, which means that it is not open source, but it is free if someone wanted to try and figure out how to make a launcher for it.

MS itself also released a lot of sources...of simple programs like notepad.

Microsofts VCD Control Tool is already portable. I use it from my flash drive regularly. No, it is not FOSS. Yes, it is free (as in beer). Most importantly to me.... it works, it's portable. If a FOSS portable application comes to light I'll probably move to it. Until then, VCD Control Tool it is.
Is this one really already portable? Don't you have to use the application to install the drivers, which would require Administrative rights?
are needed, I am using that one too sometimes. It has to install the driver delivered with it. You can uninstall the driver with the toll at the and or leave it there if you wish.
But first time run will need admin rights.

Installing and uninstalling MagicISO is less problematic.
AFAIK this is the best Windows solution now as this and MS's one are the only that let you go w/out reboot and MS simply sucks. Would be nice if sb. made a launcher though...

Not sure if it's possible to make it portable, but Daemon Tools lets you have up to 4 virtual mounted drives. Maybe someone could port that.
Daemon tools is not opensource either. sorry

acetone might be an idea though because it is FOSS. i have it on my linux box. i hear the windows port fails miserably.
And requires you to restart after installation.
Very unportable.

It would be nice to see that kind of support on InfraRecorder, but that's not the goal of the software.
I searched with Google for
ISO mount open-source
and the top result was a Wikipedia page. Then find the Windows > No cost software section, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ISO_image_software#No_cost_softwareThen I searched for mount. It has:
# Alcohol 52% FE - (create, mount) A feature-limited free trial version edition of Alcohol 120%. Can create and mount ISO images. Cannot burn discs.
# Daemon Tools Lite - (mount) a freeware version of Daemon Tools Pro that can mount ISO images and emulate an optical disc.
# Gizmo Drive[5] - (create, mount) a freeware program that enables ISO images to be created and mounted to a virtual CD/DVD-ROM drive.
# ISO Plugin for Windows Commander - (mount, extract) can read and extract files from ISO images.
# MagicDisc[9] - (create, mount) A freeware disc image emulator. Can create images from CD/DVD.
# Phantom CD[10] - (mount) A free virtual CD/DVD drive. Mounts ISO and BIN/CUE images.
# Virtual CD-ROM Control Panel[11] - (mount) A free tool from Microsoft to mount ISO images as drives. It does not mount .cue or .bin files.
# Virtual CloneDrive - (mount) A freeware CD emulator from SlySoft
# Pismo File Mount - (free) Mounts ISO (and ZIP) files as drives. Provides content menu integration to mount files quickly. Includes a command-line utility
I think that all of these are freeware, but not open-source.
If, however, you just wanted extraction, you could try 7-Zip; I've had some issues with 7-Zip and compressed ISOs, though.

I hear what your saying, and Daemon Tools Lite is perfect for portableapps!
The downside is that it is closed source from what i have read. :
