Run Portableapp in only a single .exe

Why do you need to install the portableapp on the usb? Why not just make a single .exe file to run the program so there is no need to install anything.

Because there's no free way

Because there's no free way of doing this that wouldn't be terribly slow?

Can't

There's no free and easy way to do it. And in the case of most open source software, there's no legal way to do it and redistribute it at all even by buying a super-expensive packager.

So...

what you are saying is that GPL'ed programs cannot be made into a single .exe archive using programs like Thinstall because there would be legal issues?

I don't think many of us

I don't think many of us could afford the $4,000 license fee for Thinstall, or would want to, even if we could.
Besides, repackaging all of these apps as one file would be a maintenance nightmare, not to mention all the complaints of 'why did you include this' and 'why didn't you include that'.

Correct

GPL software can not be wrapped up in a closed source thing like Thinstall. Or even into a closed source installer. Plus it's $5k for the license plus distribution fees. Every thinstalled portable app I've seen is illegal.

They don't package any

They don't package any portable applications. This site is nothing but a database.
