I've been thinking about a prospective new system for the organisation of the IRC channel, and here's what I think would work best.
All three sets of these users would be automatically voiced. Developers and Forum Moderators and Operators would have topic change access and Operators would have full operator access (+vVoAti).
- Operators - These users would have banning, kicking, voicing and topic-change access (+vVoAti) and would be selected on a combination of knowledge of IRC commands, availability during the day and trustworthy-ness. These users would be entrusted with keeping the channel running from day-to-day, such as kicking and banning users. Ideally, we would have at least 2 operators online at all times.
- Developers and Forum Moderators ("DeMos") - These users would be automatically voiced and would be automatically selected if they have released an official application or are a moderator of the forums (based on the about page). These users would also be able to change the topic, but would defer to Group 1 on matters such as banning and kicking.
- Gurus - These users would also be automatically voiced, but have no further permissions. They would be selected from the most helpful people from the channel and the voicing would show that they are available to help.
Let me know what you think of this structure. Also, feel free to vote for users here and I'll try and sort the votes into some sort of usable structure.
like it.
But I guess its gonna be difficult having at least one Operator online 24/7.

nah, I mean, all we need is for it to overlap.

I've made this survey (thanks to Google Docs and Spreadsheets):

If you're interested in becoming an Operator, kindly fill it out and I'll publish the results at some point

I filled it out, not reading the last sentence. It's a problem I have, link spontaneous disorder clickage (LSD). Wait a minute...

I like the way you have it laid out. As long as we have AT LEAST one op at all times, that would help things. "Ideally, 2 ops" is good too, just incase one goes AFK or something.
This is definitely a good start.
And now that I have things set at home on my PC (I think) I'll be on at home more too. So I'd be on pretty much anytime between 8AM (EST) and 12AM (EST).
My schedule is pretty regular to
7:30-9:30 Central Time Zone (-5 GMT) MWF
16:00-18:00 Monday
12:30-15:00 Tuesday Thursday
I'm not anywhere near a internet connection on Saturdays, if I was, I'd be chased away from the computer often

Sounds like a good setup to me. I'm not sure how often I can be online though, my school blocks IRC chat (but allows everything else).

As long as you're on the About page, you would be. We might have a few exceptions though, it depends.

sounds like a good idea in theory to me, but I wonder about getting the op overlap that we would need. For example I cant really commit to a specific time but quite often when I am on there are no other voiced users (maybe that means I should be an op though *shrugs*).
I also think that mods on this site should be ops by default, afterall they were all chosen to be mods for a reason.
At the moment, I might fall into the Guru category, since I don't have any apps out yet.
I can definitely help out, and usually do when I am on the IRC channel.
Like Steve, I can't say for sure when exactly I'd be on, but I do go on when I can.
IMHO, I like this structure, it'll be great to see it implemented.
