Read the help.html in the portable apps directory, you
have to make a unrealircd.conf

K. Any configuration data should be moved to Data on the app's close.
So, you'll need to move the unrealircd.conf, as well as the MOTD conf, SMOTD conf, and others

AVG marks as virus, mainly the cloak.dll file in the installer. Is this a false positive?

Thats a false positive, it was submitted to avg, but for some reason they never added that in their whitelist.

In these instuctions F:\ = your flash drive, replace that with your flash drive letter.
1) In AVG: Tools > Advanced Settings... > Resident Shield > Exceptions > Add Path > "F:\PortableApps\UnrealIRCDPortable\App\UnrealIRCD\tmp\"
2) Run UnrealIRCd, AVG Popup for "F:\PortableApps\UnrealIRCDPortable\App\UnrealIRCD\modules\cloak.dll", Add Exception

...you're joking, right? An IRC server on a flash drive? Wouldn't that create horrendous amounts of writes?
Maybe you're intending it for a different portable device...
Back to the topic. It has to be a false positive. I'm staff on an IRC network that used to use UnrealIRCd. It also ran on linux servers, but the Windows version didn't have any viruses either.
Cloak.dll specifically is meant to "cloak" a user's hostmask when they connect so that other users can't see their real IP address or hostmask.

Yes you are correct, i ment to point out the usage of cloak.dll in my reply but i forgot, thanks for the info. And there is practically no disk I/O aka read write, mostly the disk I/O is from the logs.

Was talking to a guy online my last night who is trialling the following version of the product, as like many, he has got really fed up with the instability of undernet, and the dumbos who keep attacking it "for fun" - not sure what platform he is using.
He is also interested in portableapps as a concept.

I have a working knowledge of a fair bit of IRC but I'm neither a guru, nor experienced as an oper (IRCop) although I've managed channels and written bot scripts for 10 years or so.
Let you know how I get on.
I can move it sideways in this machine where I saved it, to a more accessible (to others) hosting directory, or put it up "in the cloud" for posterity.
If I do that I'll post the url, because you indicated you'd be taking yours down at some time.

Yes it is... I downloaded and used it for a while. It doesn't have any viruses.

i tryed the download link at top and i got a error. im not sure if thats just me or everyone is having issues. If its not only me can the link be fixed i want to try this out.
Heres the error i get from it:

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

i tried it and when i started it up all i got was errors. it said a few things and then shut its self down. i run vista 32 bit version could that be y it wont work. all the other old and new version of the other portable apps work on my computer. so im not sure y it isnt working.

I just confirmed that the download link works. There is some configuration that you need to do, its not really "plug and play" as it were.

The download link is broken. I need a portable IRC sever software. Un-portable is not acceptable. I don't like things installing registry entries on my machine. I like to keep it entirely in one place.
