Add To PAM

Hello wraithdu;

This may not be the place for this but I have to ask. Have you and John ever spoken about adding this to PAM. I have read in other topics people asking how to add Fonts. I did my self.

My thought was that when Pam started up this could run and ask if you wanted to add fonts. Then when PAM exits it would just automatically remove them. Or even a check off in PAM's options could be added and then this would just automatically be run on start up of PAM.

You would do better

You would do better requesting this directly from John in the PortableApps.com Platform support forum. He's more than capable of adding this functionality to PAM if he wants to.

This would be awesome for...

Something like finale notepad on your flash drive (even though I know we can't make an official version because it isn't open source), because it needs the maestro font.

The EXE does not quit

I have just started to have this problem. I can not safely remove my USB after running PortableFonts. I get an error message saying try to remove later.

I looked in the task manager and found "portablefont.exe" still running. After I ended it in task manager I could remove my USB. I did this multiple times.

I am using this at work on a PC running WinXP SP3. The company I work for just did some automatic upgrades. I am not sure what to try to do except try it out at home on my PC which is runing Win2KP. Maybe I should remove this app and reinstall it.

Close it

You need to close it from the system tray

'PortableFonts.exe' should

'PortableFonts.exe' should not remain running after you choose 'Add', 'Remove', or 'Exit'. And yes, you'll have to remove the fonts before you can remove the drive.

Still Running

Hello Group;

I tried the suggestion you all gave me. But "Portablefont.exe" still runs and I have to halt it via Task manager.

I even reloaded it. I will try it on my home PC tonight which is running Win2KP.

there's no reason for that.

there's no reason for that. I"m using it and it rarely gives me any problems at all.

Could you possibly have a corrupted font?

Just Started Up

Hello OliverK

Just started to happen. I have been useing this App for a long time. I only started haveing this when I upgraded to the latest. I am not saying that there is any problem with it just seems the way it happened.

After I stopped it via the Task Manager could I safely remove my USB. I did notice yesterday a similar problem with Firefox. I had Firefox set up to use the fonts I installed with portableFont.

Yesterday I removed PortableFont from my USB but never changed the setting in Firefox. I had the same problem the next time I used Firefox. I could not safely remove my USB. Only after I changed the font setting in FireFox to a system font did this problem stop.

I really do not understand it at all. I even tried the aditional "ADD" and "REMOVE" exe's in PortableFont with result being could not safely remove USB

My next experitment is to use a new font that I do not have installed on my PC. I did have the same fonts installed and in the Font Directory of PortableFonts with no problem adding or removing them or removing my USB.

If any of this helps some one smarter then me figure out what I have been doing wrong please let me know. I even started looking for the first release to try but could not find it.

As I said above this font app is my on the top of my list as needed. I have bad eyes and love the ability to use a font of my choice and a size of my choice portably. So please do not take any of this as a flame in any way it is not. I even hope this App can be incorperated some day intio the basic PAM.

I really have no idea why the app would hang. All of the provided exe's should run and exit. Perhaps you do have a corrupted font? The basic function of the program has not changed from version 1, so I don't see where a newer version should make any difference. Just as a general rule, I would run it to ADD fonts before any other programs are running, and I would close all programs possibly using one of the added fonts before REMOVING them. Outside that, it's a very simple program and I don't see why it should hang.

Oh, and the app should be 'PortableFonts.exe', with the (s). That is what you've got, right...?

Hello wraithdu; I just

Hello wraithdu;

I just downloaded the App and used newly downloaded fonts that I never used before.

Same results can not remove USB safely. This time I tried it from both my USB, and then directly from my hard drive. I just copied over the directory to my C drive.

Everytime I click on the EXE, either through PAM or directly. I end up haveing the exe file stay in the task manager under the process tab. From my USB I can not remove it until I end each occurance of it in the task manager.

Even after I exit PAM which then does drop out of task manager PortableFonts.exe is still there.

I will try it tonight on my home PC running Win2kp. By the way so I do not forget to tell you I ran nothing else but PortableFonts for this trial.

Assuming you've set up your directory per the readme, I've got no clue what's failing on your system.

Please wrap your code with <pre> tags </pre> next time. It makes your code and the page more readable.

You need to run Exec "$EXEDIR\Portablefonts.exe remove" afterwords to make the portable fonts utility remove the fonts from the system.
