GIMP: Bug: Difference of Gaussians erases layer

I just downloaded Gimp Portable 2.6.1.
Using Edge-Detect->Difference of Gaussians... results in the layer becoming entirely transparent. This even shows up in the preview window. If I uncheck Invert, it will preview properly, but will still erase the entire layer when I run the operation.

Is this a known defect? Is this where I report bugs?

I get a similar bug, but

mine is not transparent, it is black.

I did not see any similar bugs in GIMP's bugzilla.
I'll try to install the non-portable one on a clean system and look for the same behavior.

Bug only exists in my Portable GIMP, kinda

I DL'd GIMP 2.6.1 (installed version) and put it on a clean machine.

The preview is still a little screwy, (invert does not preview), but it works OK once you apply it.

However, in the Portable GIMP here, you see the behavior you describe.
When you apply the Difference of Gaussians, it clears the contents of the layer. If you are using a format that supports transparency, then the layer becomes an empty transparent layer; if not, it becomes an empty white layer.

So I guess this is a true PA bug...

EDIT: I don't know if this will help troubleshoot, but if you display the Layers in the toolbox while you apply the DoG, you can see that it makes two additional layers (dog_scratch_layer1 and dog_scratch_layer2), which leads me to believe that the error occurs at the end of the script...

Found this

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=557380
It doesn't look like it's a Portable issue - but then, I was able to make a normal GIMP install work on Windows....

a puzzlement...
