Ok,I'm here to ask you all how to properly update portable pidgin in my USB drive to the now latest Pidgin 2.5.2?
In the Portableapps.com Pidgin pages it says
>>>Upgrading Pidgin Portable
To upgrade to a newer version of Pidgin Portable, just install a new version over your current installation. All your settings will be preserved.
---END--
Now last time I tried to upgrade like that, my costume theme, plugins, settings/accountns and smile pack got all deleted.
Can any body tell me how to properly upgrade or any alternative and/or suggestions.
The Data directory contains your settings and is preserved on each upgrade. The only directories deleted are: App\GTK, App\Pidgin\locale, App\Pidgin\pixmaps\pidgin\emotes\default and App\Pidgin\pixmaps\purple. Your plugins and other settings are all maintained in the Data directory and untouched. If you're using unofficial stuff that alters one of the above-mentioned files, you'll need to reinstall it after upgrading.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
But my Pidgin settings sure can.
When I upgraded to Pidgin 2.50 all my settings got lost, including the plug-ins, emoticon pack and the theme I had installed. This was a direct hit the stomach for me.
This time around after reading your post, I went head and backed-up the whole PortablePidgin folder to my desktop and went ahead with the upgrade. Everything went smoothly. The only thing that didn't make it through was the theme but that you had already told me about.
Thanks
