thunderbird email client U3 version doesn't work in Windows Vista and XP

Hi! My first post here.

I'm using thunderbird email client version 2.0.0.17 (20080914) on my U3 flash drive.

It doesn't work in Windows Vista and XP (fresh installations).

I've tried windows update and the Windows XP is SP3 now. The problem still remains.

Please kindly give me a hand.

Thanks in advance.

is this TB from U3 or from here?

Did you install it how exactly?
Install from the *.paf or via the U3 launcher?
Do you have any special addons installed? I had some problems recently with som eaddons not being uptodate with the versions and stopped TB of starting.

this TB is from U3 and some add-ons installed

Hi, Otto Sykora! I install from the *.exe.

I have the following add-ons installed:
1) Lightning 0.8(build2008033120)
2) Lookout 1.2.3
3) United States English Dictionary 3.0.2

I think the *.exe installation is U3 style.

Unsupported

That's what we thought. We have no idea who put together the Mozilla apps for U3 as they appear to have purposely left themselves off of any of the support or code documentation. PortableApps.com dropped support for the closed U3 platform when it became clear that they were being phased out and stopped actively promoting or supporting it.

No U3 Version

There is no supported U3 version of Thunderbird at all anymore. There are some unofficial ones floating around, but they don't work right/leave stuff behind/etc. None are supported by PortableApps.com or Mozilla.

shall i move to portable version?

Hi, John!

I can find the TB portable on PortableApps.com. Do you mean the support from PortableApps.com and Mozilla is available for TB portable now?

Mozilla doesnt fully support

Mozilla doesnt fully support ThunderbirdPortable, but we do support it here. Mozilla has given PortableApps.com special permissions to keep their branding and logos in the application, while U3 is technically breaking trademark laws by calling their thunderbird package thunderbird.

PortableApps.com has never supported the U3 versions of the applications, however we kept this forum open for general questions/comments.

?

We did support U3 packages but dropped support a while ago.

Unsupported

My point was that any Mozilla apps for U3 are completely unsupported. None of them are supported by anyone... not by PortableApps.com, not by Mozilla. All are outdated. All are buggy. All leave things behind on each PC you run them on.

Mozilla Thunderbird, Portable Edition, on the other hand, is actively maintained and actively supported. And is released under a licensing agreement with Mozilla that allows us to legally use their trademarks.
