When I empty the trash, I would like to have the most recently-deleted items remain in the Trash just a little longer, in case I want to look at them again.
But if I use the Empty Trash command, all of them go away. Whether it keeps them a week or two weeks, or even just a couple of days, I don't care. I just would like a little margin.
I don't know what mechanisms are in place to allow this kind of customization.
Any ideas?
Oh, wait. Coming at it from another perspective, is there an auto-cleanup feature where messages older than a certain number of days are automatically emptied from the trash?
Thanks

there is. You can adjust the number of how many emails it should keep just like you can with any other folder by right clicking-properties-second tab (dunno about the actual words as I'm using it in german)
"What about Love?" - "Overrated. Biochemically no different than eating large quantities of chocolate." - Al Pacino in The Devils Advocate
Excellent!
For the sake of posterity....
I was viewing the Trash folder, then selected "Folder Properties" from the Edit menu. I guess right-clicking in the folder tree would do it too.
Then the second tab is "Retention Policy". I selected the option to
"Delete messages more than ___ days old"
but there was also an option to
"Delete all but the last ___ messages"
Thanks so much!
