File Shredder: could become a part of PortableApps

I wondering if anyone has used File Shredder before, which this application is very usefull, it can very easily become portable, by copying the .exe from installation directory, or just unpack the installer. I think it is open source because it is completely free.

File Shredder download link:
http://www.fileshredder.org/

I' am hoping someone would able to develop this software to become a part of PortableApps.

File Shredder Info:

With File Shredder you can remove files from your hard drive without fear they could be recovered. There are quite a few software tools today for retrieval of deleted files under Windows OS. Those tools, often referred to as "file recovery" software, are taking advantage of shortcoming of WIndows "delete" command that we all use regularly to delete files. Actually, the "delete" operation in Windows only removes bits of information from files so they appear deleted in OS. It is easy to retrieve those files using aforementioned specialized file recovery software.

In order to remove, or shred files permanently from your system you have to use a program that is capable of rewriting the files with random series of binary data multiple times. This process is often called shredding. That way, the actual content of the file has been overwritten and the possibilities to recover such a shredded file are mostly theoretical.

Eraser Portable

We already have a utility in our lineup that does the same thing. It's called Eraser Portable and you can find it here:
https://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/eraser_portable

It supports Guttmann (Default), Pseudorandom Data and US DoD 5220-22.M methods for shredding files as well. File Shredder may actually be based on Eraser, but they aren't making the source available on their site (that I could find).

If you'd like an even easier interface, we have Eraser Drop Target in our forums for testing that will also become an official app soon:

Ok But

I have the software Eraser but it look very good. The File Shredder has a decent interface which more pleasing than Eraser, and File Shredder has another feature called: Shred Free Disk Space, which is very good to perminantly remove all data that were securely deleted.

I will have a look at the Eraser Drop Target.

Thank for replying

Same Thing

Eraser also has the ability to wipe free disk space. I think File Shredder may actually be using Eraser's code illegally... but we can't tell because even though they claim it is open source under the GPL... they don't appear to make the source code available.

that could be because they

that could be because they might be using some closed source code in it which allows them legaly to say it is GPL but not have to release the source code. i found the same thing with LotusSymphonySuite

Nope

Eraser is GPL, which means you have to release all the code that links into it under the GPL and provide the source to anyone you provide the binary to. File Shredder is doing neither.

Lotus Suite uses some OpenOffice.org under the LGPL which requires that you make the LGPL-licensed libraries available under the LGPL and provide the source to anyone you provide the binary to (which they do) but you do not have to make the source of the other pieces available.

Not an expert

I'm not a real pro at how a software functions or how to program a software but I thought I'd make a comment on this software that have not already been mentioned by anyone else, to help portable apps to have as many great software, and to hope to see if there are any chances of this software could become a part of PortableApps.

I love PortableApps it is a real excellent application.

Thank you.
