Gameless Packaging

When the new version of the menu is released could the default packaging of the suites be altered. In a professional environment it does not create a good image for two of the three offerings to have games included.

Having "professional" versions of the suites would be better. Then, for those who want entertainment, have variants with the games. Maybe packaging all the games together as a separate download.

Select which apps to install

Allowing users to select which apps to install would work too. Have them all in the suite download as they are now but allow the option of which apps to install.

I'm not one of the developers here but

I don't see why you don't just download the suite with the menu and backup then download the apps you want separately. Then you can choose exactly what you want. In my case I actually downloaded a bunch of apps and used them separately before installing the suite.

Tedious

The reason for not downloading the platform only suite then adding in all the professional applications is that it is tedious. But it's not about ease of use my point is professionalism.

Maybe …

…it would be easier to download and install the complete suite - and then just delete the games?

The only thing to be confirmed on "professional appearance"

is that there are different points of view. You could initiate a discussion on every subcategory posted here to be included or not. Since John Haller somewhere announced an update functionality with the next menu release you´ll have the choice which to download or not. Until then I´d refer to some megaposts on what to be included within the suite or not that had been made here before the last update...

For all this fuss

You could probably make your own version by installing the files manually then compressing the entire folder (Portable Apps or whatever you called it) to a self-extracting archive. There's probably other programs out there that could give you a regular .exe format but, I'd just use WinRAR (rar.exe or something like that). Otherwise the developers might as well make an all gaming package, an all office package, an all development package, ect, ect. Instead of focusing on what really matters, making more great apps portable.

it's what I do ..

for my office. I downloaded the basic and then removed or added the stuff I wanted my PCs to have. The design of the menu makes it very easy and compact for such an option.

Don't be an uberPr∅. They are stinky.

Individual yeah; Corporate um

While that approach works for an individual (as so the other suggestion of installing Suite Standard and deleting things) but for corporate appeal?

i made just one ...

version on a usb, and that's the one I propogated to everyone. I didn't do the setups on each individual pc one at a time.

I downloaded the apps, tweaked the settings and default settings as would be proper for my office use, even got an appropriate background that would pop up on insertion. Smile

.

Why not an installator where you choose which applications you want and it download automatically from internet?

As I mentioned before

the admins here, a.k.a. the developers, don't need to be spending time on such a setup. They work on these things in their free time so, that would be a lot of extra work that's really not needed. In order to install the apps you need to use a computer with admin privileges anyway which generally means something other than a work or school machine. I even have a home computer (though I don't get to use it much and I'm to poor to afford my own internet) but, even I could customize things to work at a school or work. You could also use a categorizer to organize things then the only 'non professional' thing on the menu could be 'home use' or something and you could put a bunch of folders under that.

https://portableapps.com/node/8091

This is a link to the categorizer which should be obsolete when they upgrade PAM. OR you could just do like I said earlier and make your own version if you wish to distribute it. Also if you really want to look professional you could modify the autorun file to give your computer a new background (as someone mentioned before) or probably to hide certain menus and folders when you're at work (I don't know how off hand but, I do know it's possible and probably simple enough to do).

K, I ranted enough for now. I just don't see the point.
