I'd like to hide Vista's startbar/taskbar (as in it won't reappear if I mouse over the edge of the screen). Does anybody know how to do this?

Kill explorer.exe. Other than that, no. You'd have to use an Explorer replacement.
I was afraid of that. There's no 3rd party programs or anything that you know of that can do it?
If not, do you know of any good replacements for explorer?
Rocketdock as an addon that will disable it all. It's an .exe so you don't need rocket dock it works great I know a few people that use it.

It only worked for about 5 minutes. Could you get a link?
right click on the taskbar, unlock it, resize it down until it doesnt show
if you are luckey you can get into the properties and set it to autohide

Doesn't work in Vista. Unlike in XP and earlier, in Vista you can't resize the taskbar to less than 1 line. Auto-hide is the closest thing you're going to get without a third-party solution.
You can find it here.

However, I believe that is the one I tried. It would hide the taskbar for a while, and then it would mysteriously come back. Another user reported the same problem in the comments.
