Hello boys and girls. I am using "version 2.0.0.17 (20080914)"
In the section,
Using Thunderbird with Webmail (Hotmail, Yahoo, etc)
it says,
"Thunderbird is configured to download and remove your mail from the server by default. If you don't want that to happen, update your account settings after setting up your account" (and before checking your email).
The question is,
Exactly where AND what setting or SETTINGS do I
need to set or unset to make SURE, ALL my emails remain
on hotmail ?
I do not see a definitive area, sorry.
I don't really want to download any, just read or view them,
I have no room on my flash drive
But it is most important to keep the emails on hotmail.
tools, account settings, under the account in question: server settings, tick box leave messages on server.
Well if you just want read them you need to download them other wise you can not read them... what is not here can not be seen.
It is simply so, that you download a copy of the message and the 'original' still remains on the server until you delete it by other means.
But hotmail, this is not accessible via POP3 protocol? Do you read it with IMAP? Sorry with those just webmail I am not that much experienced. But essentially they have to be rather IMAP then pop. But in such case this is also not a problem, they will also be left on the server.
On the other hand: any e-mail client will need to *download* the message to be able to display it for you. So if you want read your mails just use the web browser to read them, set the cache to very small value and all will be then cleared anyway stright after you read it locally.

You would figure that it's best (or safer) to leave messages on the server, especially if you are experimenting with a new mail client.
By downloading headers only, you would have a way of selecting which messages to download, and which ones to delete on the server.
Until you download or delete any, they are kept on the server. So, you may access them via webmail, if preferable.
