For me

I have a old video game, Unreal 1.
And rather than putting the server (user made) skins and maps,
in a zip so I can put them where I want, do it manually etc.
The server person made them into EXE's, so i guess
people who didn't know how to go to,
C:/Unreal/Maps
C:Unreal/Textures
etc wouldn't have to deal with it.
and they are small. like 1MB to 5 MB.
So I just want to take out the files so I can do it manually.
Not to mention, I don't like EXE's in a case like this Smile
So I am watching this thread too.
OH, I posted this jusr a few days ago my self, Can't find it
now, but I ended up downloading this,
uniextract16_noinst.rar
That I believe is a NO Install.
I have not looked at or tried it yet.

Portable OtsAV

Can anyone help me make OtsAV Free portable so I can use it in my office to mix and play mp3? I tried to extract the .exe in Universal Extrator but didn't work. Thanks.

Requests forum?

Usually requests go in the Requests forum; if you are wanting to learn developer skills, I think there is a developer forum too. If the product isn't "Open Source" then "Free" doesn't count for much around here, though of course the skills that you need for portablizing an OSS program are about the same as for a non-OSS one.

It's usually helpful to put different requests into different topics, rather than tacking a new note onto the end of an existing one.

Sometimes when you make a request like that, it is helpful to say what it is you like about that particular program or how it is better than other players available in the Suite. People might be more inclined to help if they knew you were not just looking for "yet another VLC clone", of which we already have one.

One technique to use, if Universal Extractor can't get the constituent parts out of the setup package, is to install the program and grab them from wherever the installer puts them. A tool that can help with that is RegShot -- you run it before you install (on a clean machine), then install, then run it again, and it tells you what files and registry entries have been changed. Not as slick as having Universal Extractor do it, but helpful nevertheless.

Portable Online Game

How about making AUDITION or O2jam portable? Itried to extract the .exe with Universal Extractor and it worked but the game won't run.

Audition

Audition, or some flavors of it, has some tricky Macrovision protection that prevents it from running if it isn't installed just so. Actually, you don't have to have Macrovision for a program to be hard to run if it isn't installed. Sometimes the constituent parts of the program have to be placed in particular places, or the places where they are put needs to be registered in a certain way.

That's where regshot can help, at least to tell you what the task is. It may still not be possible to do all of those things in a "Portable" way. For that requires proprietary apps like Thinapp or Xenocode.
