I have been searching, and I see a lot of fake sites and stuff. But could some one verify me if there is or is not a portable version of Avira or avg? Or anything better then clamwin?

there may be a portable version of the bloated system resorse hogging avg out there but it defeats the porpose
clamwin is an oncall scanner meining it runs only when u ask it to
most other Antiviral software packages require the use of a service (must start with windows) and are buggy without one.

AVG (which isn't bloated anymore) and Avira are illegal to package, my suggestion is to stick with clamwin as thats the only Open-Source Antivirus scanner we can package

AVG, Avira and even Avast are not opensorce software They will never be on this site. PA only hosts Opensource to make things easier. There may be portable versions out there they may work. Just google them they may not be written in PA Format but still work.
CalmWin is a very good program. It Updates its Virus vault when older than 5 days. I find it handy when using other computers. It can scan the computer so i can find out if there are viruses on it before I. I do not want to corrupt my flash drive and loose all my data.
on the side I have found Avast Antivirus to be the best of the free virus programs for everyday use. I have it on my comp. It has some features that only come with the Professional version of AVG (costing $$$)

If ClamWin detects a virus on the computer you plugged your drive into, it's probably too late. If Windows can detect when a drive is plugged in, so can the virus.
Avast is terrible. Simply terrible.
Avast! does not protect a system. Avast! will not recognize many current viruses. Avast! will recommend that you delete svchost.exe.
Do not use Avast!.
No expert but I personally recommend Avast over AVG. Been using it for a while now and has picked up many viruses commercial software hasn't and seems to do alright on system resources. We all have our own experiences as the contrast between Crux's and mine opinions demonstrate. I have read that for pure AV (eg not including spyware) Avira is superior to AVG and Avast, however with spyware included Avast was ranked number one out of the top Free AVs offering real time protection.
Note again I am not an expert just stating my, experience and what I have read : )
With regards to portable AVs - Clamwin has been pretty good to me, no complaints. Only thing is I usually need to pause my Avast real time protection during a ClamWin scan. Also this may be another option - http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/stick/

Also, I didn't see anything indicating when these tests were run.
Anyway, the reason I recommend against Avast! is that I travel frequently to the Czech Republic, and Avast! is very popular there. Every computer I have ever used there has Avast! installed, and every single one of them were infected. It even happened to the computer I use regularly. Avast! is powerless in preventing current threats and thoroughly unable to do anything once a machine is infected. It literally suggests deleting critical system files.
Really, what good is it, other than an annoying blue box that pops up every few hours and a voice that says the virus database has been updated?
There are going to be some bad experiences out there.
Avast is great, opposite of what you said.
It does protect the system and very well at that.
If you were infected with the "svchost.exe"
there are alot of problems with that, starting with
pay attention, "scvhost.exe"
google them.
Read about them at the various or your favorite antivirus site.
I t must be something to do with chez where he was. if all the computers where. i have never herd of anyone so against Avast in my live so I am stumped. Most people I know are converting to it. so It must be a good program. sorry that our friend has not had good experience with it. as there are so many other anti virus programs out there he is free to use whatever he likes.

How bad is clamwin really?
Personally I use ClamWin to scan all my downloaded files with Mozilla Firefox Portable. Download Statusbar allow you to launch a program with user-defined parameters. Just make sure you keep it up-to-date and you'll be fine.
If you plug your thumbdrive in an infected computer, it will be able to infect it even if you use a commercial, portable solution because the operating system will control the USB access, first, and then the portable anti-virus.
