Here's the situation:
I have the following drives:
c: local disk
d: dvd/cd+-rw
e: 4gb flash drive
f: USB external hdd
g: private network share
i: 2GB SD card
So the question is, how do I find out which is quickest for running my PortableApps on without having to actually test them all on each.
What I am looking for is some kind of speed test that will work regardless of where the drive is located.
Can anyone recommend a way to test the read/write speed of these various drives from windows?
Thanks.
1.) C: drive, pretty fast, but there are a few problems with retaining file associations.
2.) External HDD not quite as fast, but still quite fast, with none of the problems.
3.) Flash drive, I have tried both Cruzer micro and Lexar with no problems, but with a little lag in load times.
For me, it's external HDD all the way, nothing else. Someone might disagree, but they might also have a better setup that I'm not aware of.
I can guess, we can all guess, but I want to know for sure.
I waiting to switch to a ext hdd. I've heard that they are better, and I know someone that's blown out a few flash drives from use.
Plus, I'm getting really tired of initial lag times

I'm using a Lexar FireFly, and get little to no lag with it, even with big apps. But yeah, the overuse issue is ever-present with flash memory.
I have a 250GB portable hard drive, but when I used it for portable apps, it was really depressing because of all the unused space going to waste (I only have maybe 6 GB of stuff)...
So I switched back to my 8GB FireFly.
I'm shocked that out of so many people using PortableApps nobody has thought to test which devices are fastest for running them...
