Text 2 speech programs.

Are there any Portable text 2 speech programs that can be run off a USB
stick & that don’t modify the registry? I have tried many from freeware
to shareware, & everyone seems to modify the registry. I don’t have
administrative rights on the computer I’m using, so this registry situation
is messing me up.

--- UPDATE: ---
Looks like DSpeech v1.55.1 is 100% portable, free & sounds considerably
better then the basic Microsoft Sam speech.

DSpeech v1.55.1, & a few other portable programs.

As far as I know, most

As far as I know, most Windows TTS programs rely on Microsoft Text-to-Speech engine (therefore mucking w/the registry). We would need one totally self contained. Please let me know if I am wrong.

Not all.

Some have their own, but mess with the registry.

2nd Speech

That’s true about many using Microsoft’s Speech engine.
But most that I have tried don’t. Not to mention the many
that use AT&T’s Natural Voices.

But I found one! 2nd Speech, it’s not the best one but it is
freeware. But in order to make it portable you need to install
the program. Then zip up the content of the installed Dir & you
can then. Run it on any computer without installing or it modifying
the registry. But it would be nice if I could figure out how to make
it use or install clearer voices.

Other Voices

I too would like to see this done... I'll try out the solution mentioned above.

As for more voices... Cepestral has voices of its own that merge into this program well.

What?...

Um, what is "Cepestral"?... Is (are?) its 'voices' free?

A link, plz?...

Thx.

Edit:
Noticed "2nd Speech" is only "Trial" download.
What are the limitations of said "trial"?
Time-limited? Feature limited? Neither? Either? Both?...
Etc.?...
(Not even the FAQ addressed the limitations of the "trial" version - very frustrating...)

Later Edit:

So I downloads and installs the proggy (by way of unpacking it with the "Universal Extractor" proggy - I LOVE that program!...), and find out that the trial version is for 30 days only (time-limited). Therefore, it cannot legitimately be considered "free", eh?...
