I can't explain the source of this problem, or recover from it.
Running 2.0.0.16 everything worked as I wanted it: as sites are visited, the directory Data/profile/Cache grows and grows. I upgraded to 2.0.0.18, set everything under Tools -> Options as for 16 but, try as I might, I can't get the Cache to grow. I have "Always clear my private data when I close Firefox" unchecked, and "Use up to 3072 MB of space for the cache" (not 0). But the directory remains stubbornly sparse.
An even greater mystery: I reverted to 2.0.0.16, settings as before, and the Cache refuses to grow here, too. Two days ago, running 16, everything worked perfectly.
I just cannot think what I've forgotten/ what I've mis-set.
Can anybody spot what is surely a glaring sin of omission or commission?
Fergus

Cache handling
I just tried a base install of 2.0.0.18 and the cache worked fine when I set it to 16MB. Try a base install (no extensions) and ensure it works. If it does, something is up with your profile or one of your extensions and you'll need to figure out what is getting in the way.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
I reduced the cache size allocation from 3072 MB to 2048 MB and everything worked properly. Thank you for your help.
