I wanted to use a couple of the U3 porable progams on my non U3 Smartdrive USB. I figured out a way to to it.
1. Download a U3 app from the SanDisk website.
2. Right click on the app an open it with WinRar.
3. WinRar will give you an error. Ignore it and you should still be able to view the files inside the U3 exe.
4. Now click on "Convert to SFX". You can use the default options and click on.
5. It will convert the U3 exe and the icon may change to a WinRar exe file.
6. Now right click the exe and extract the files.
You should now have a few folders and just look for your app and necessary files to load onto your usb.

Why would it be illegal? You're not redistributing it, it's just for yourself.
It's easier and quicker to simply rename the .u3p file to .zip then dbl click on it. (don't you wish it was that easy with .paf files? LOL )
And while that gives you access to the files it doesn't necessarily mean the app will work or work in a manner you wish. Many U3 apps are designed to run fron the hd which results in very quick access times. Running them solely from the USB stick will be dramatically slower.

But it's not in .u3p, but in .exe, so it won't work.
I don't recommend you to do that.
Some programs for U3 (most of them) needs environment variables, parameters and routines that are only parsed with U3 launchpad. Running it directly will break portability and leave files behind on host computer.
The U3 Launchpad provides several environment variables, such as the current drive letter and the location of several key folders. These are only generated if the program is launched from the Launchpad (i.e. click on the U3 shortcut). If the program uses any of these variables (or if any of the files are in the "host" folder after you extract), the program will NOT work. Running in this way is NOT portable. Just find a locally installable version of the app and be content running it on your own computer.

Can you provide a link to the U3 .exe download you're referring to that is not in .U3P format?

All applications on u3.com are .exe
I found how to do it! Ok I know that its has bin long but I figured how get it to work.
Ok you will need 7zip for it first, the you will have to your temp folder "C:\Documents and Settings\type you user name here\Local Settings\Temp" do know that im using xp pro, when you open this directory run U3.exe file that hold the app that you want on your usb drive it will give you an error message ignore it but don't close it now go to the temp folder and look for a folder with this name on it "Rar$DR07.718" when you find it use 7zip to extract the files from "rebuilt.Veohu3.zip" to a new folder in your desktop, next you can delete the device and manifest folder. Now you can move the files from the folder named "host" to the one that has the "data" folder "do not put in the data folder".
Make sure not to delete the Data folder, first remove the sking folder and add it to the same location as veoh player is in.
Well I hope that this is of help to some that is interested in having Veoh player portablo. All that is needed is a PortableApps Launcher and we are good.
