Bypass workplace internet password

hi there

i work for a company that has a password on the internet. when attempting to load a page, a password prompt opens up, asking for a user id and password.

some sites work like mapquest.com and wikipedia.org. however, when accessing such websites, the prompt shows up NUMEROUS times (at least 20 times) and after i press "cancel" on these prompts, the loaded page is usually distorted (lacking certain images and frames)

is there anyway to bypass this?

my friend tells me no but i am still hopeful Smile

We don't support questions

We don't support questions like this here at Portableapps.com, to do so would compromise your workplace security and could place you in a situation you do not want to be in.

Not sure it's a request to truly bypass security

I don't think this user is asking how to "get around" security. He has a password, and is able to surf. I think the question asked really is more "Is there a way to make FireFox do this automagically after I've done it once?"

If that is the question, it's probably one that should be taken to a FireFox support group for help, though.

Simple solution

Ask the company's IT techs what needs to be done to surf the sites you want without numerous password prompts.

If they can't help you ask your manager what needs to be done to resolve the problem.

Go with common sense

I would suggest you to discuss about it to your IT department. They manage the computer environment, and they will be able to provide a solution. If there is something broken, it is up to them to find a solution, not you.

If you go by their rules, nobody will lose.

At the public library in my

At the public library in my city, they have special computers that are reserved for those that want to look at the library catalog. When you try to go to a webpage that has nothing to do with the library catalog, a message is displayed that says that the computer is filtered (for library catalog use only). When i used Firefox Portable, I easily accessed all the websites i wanted to go to, without the message appearing that the computer was filtered. I have a hunch that only IE was made to be filtered because IE was the only "browser" on the computer. Maybe your job has only IE that requires passwords and maybe if you used Firefox from a flash drive, you MIGHT be able to surf what you want.

ALSO NOTE: Firefox Portable doesn't have flash, so you won't be able to surf like youtube or play games.

Who says it doesn't have flash?

Who says Firefox doesn't have flash? You just have to manually install it.
