I was surprised I couldn't find anything like this online. I would like a desktop clock that chimes on the quarter hour (chiming incrementally like a grandfather clock so you can hear the specific hour, :15, :30, or :45) and that displays the current time.
There is a small GrandfatherClock executable (http://software.techrepublic.com.com/abstract.aspx?docid=327695) but it's a still image that sits on top of all wiindows, has no customizable options, and chimes only on the hour. I don't know whether it counts the hour it's chiming. It's a nice picture, but I wanted the clock animated to show the actual time and maybe swing the pendulum. It should also allow the user to choose whether its window is always on top. A chime sound option might be nice too. As it stands, I see no reason to have the clock image at all, except as a reminder that the program is running, and the hourly chime isn't very useful.
OneClock fills in some of those gaps. It's a customizable system tray clock that can chime on intervals you select (and has grandfather chimes, though I don't know whether it uses the incremental version). It costs ten bucks and doesn't seem to have an option to display on the desktop as an analog clockface. All the skins are for the system tray display.
There's also at least one screensaver grandfather clock, but I need an app that will run on the desktop, not a screensaver, so I didn't investigate these.
I wonder if anyone knows whether such a clock does already exist, and if so, where? Is it portable? This would be extremely useful to me as a portable app, as well as appealing, and I'm guessing other people might agree.
