I created a new topic for this because the general consensus for Silverlight was that it was only for MS sites. Now that Netflix uses Silverlight for their movie viewer I'd like to install it onto my flash drive so I can use it with my FF portable. Has anyone tried this?
Thanks,
Joe
Doesn't matter how many sites use it if it's generally not portable. A search of the forums indicate that nothing has changed from the last attempts to make it portable, sorry
Tim
Things have got to get better, they can't get worse, or can they?
Silverlight is closed source, under a restrictive license and is not portable by itself. It must be installed into the operating system and then a plugin connector is installed into Firefox. So, you can either ask Microsoft to decouple it from the operating system or you can ask Netflix to use the defacto standard for video: Flash (with a 98% install base). I'm asking Netflix to switch since, by choosing Silverlight, they've completely locked out Linux/BSD users from using their service (and no, Moonlight doesn't count since it doesn't actually work).
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
This is another soon-to-be failed attempt by Microsoft to gain control over a segment of the online market, by dangling some "features" in front of their potential customers to lure them into signing on to a proprietary technology.
It ain't a-gonna work.
Instead, make like JTH and tell Netflix that they are going to lose customers if they saddle themselves with this!
I made this half-pony, half-monkey monster to please you.
