Linux Portable

Several options already exist.

Linux Launcher for Windows is a Windows portable app that uses Qemu portable to run Linux in Windows. It includes scripts that allows you to choose from a list of variety of Linux flavors and it will download the necessary files into a .IMG file for Qemu.

liveusb-creator
Installs a bootable Fedora system on your USB drive. This program works on both Linux and Windows to install Fedora on your USB stick.

Sidux liveusb-creator for Windows XP
A port of Fedora LiveUSB Creator but installs Ubuntu instead of Fedora. Reports show issues with this tool but with enough patience you will be able to get it working.

UNetbootin - Universal Netboot Installer
Not a port & claims it will install a wide variety of distributions including Ubuntu, DSL, PuppyLinux.

ULUMFW - Ubuntu Live USB Maker for Windows
Found this one on Google. Couldn't find any more info about this.

Since they are beta...

Because they are beta, they are not stable enough, or maybe simple enough to be on the normal apps menu, you can still get them by searching, but they do not feel they are stable enough for standard users...

actually for them to be run

actually for them to be run portably on windows they use an open source emulator called QEMU, but QEMU uses a closed source sound library. someone here did compile it to use a different open source one, but it looks like the initiative didn't take off.

But there’s no sense crying over every mistake,
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.
