There is an issue with fancy "superbar" feature on windows 7.
I use Windows 7 build 7000 (beta 1).
Launcher and application showing as two buttons instead of one.

Is it possible to fix this in a future versions of launcher?

Windows 7 (vienna) "superbar" and the launcher.
funny I'm running windows 7 (7000 beta 1) as well and I have no problems with that whatsoever :/. I am unable to recreate the bug.

I mean if you've already pinned the launcher to taskbar, click it and it will spawn a second button. I don't launch apps directly from USB Stick, I keep them on HD.
I use them on an external hard drive and also on the hard drive itself but never came across that at all.

Steps to reproduce:
1) Install Thunderbird portable to any place.
2) Drag ThunderbirdPortable.exe to the TaskBar.
3) Click on the button with Thunderbird icon on the TaskBar to launch Thunderbird.
4) The second button will appear (http://www.picamatic.com/view/1660214_Capture/).
Is there a possibility to rewrite the launcher the way it should not spawn the second button? Non-portable versions don't have this issue.
well I don't think there is another way. here how it works. PortableApps.com Launchers are a seperate exe file that launches another app. it's possible it's reading that way and showing the launchers instance and not grouping it with thunderbird.exe. as for a work around. at this time windows 7 is a beta and should used at descrestion imho

Looks like you shut off the windows features since there is no transparency. In the start menu type windows features in the search bar and there should be an option to turn them on. If they are on and this still occurs right click the taskbar and then properties.
In the menu there is an option to group icons (a drop down list) make sure it is set to the first option, "always group icons" i think.
Sory off topic:
How do you get Windows 7

If the public beta starts on 05.01.2009 how are you a tester? Are you part of a top secret Microsoft research group or are you working for Microsoft? If you can become part of this testing group without working for MS please tell me how.

sorry for the late reply. There was a closed beta testing version available. I was lucky as I had a friend who worked for Microsoft

I've noticed updates appearing from time to time on Demonoid.

Technically, I guess we could call this a Windows bug. It should affect all apps that use more than one EXE as Windows won't be able to group them properly.

then it's a bug he is the only one experiencing. because it's only running 1 instance. Basically it's sits on his taskbar as a shortcut. when the app it running yes it shows it again but you'll notice the app that is running has a box around it signifying that it's running the other one doesn't have a box around showing that it is just a shortcut. IMHO this isn't a bug but by design

The superbar should combine "shortcut" and a running app, it's what is was made for.
I assure you, it's not the bug I'm only one experiencing, see steps to reproduce" up there.
The shortcut is to one program (ThunderbirdPortable.exe). The other icon is for Thunderbird.exe. The first icon is there because you put the shortcut there, not because ThunderbirdPortable.exe is running and put a taskbar button there. Thunderbird.exe did put its own taskbar button there, which is also expected. Windows would need to be very smart indeed to be able to know that the shortcut to "program A" (in this case, ThunderbirdPortable.exe) needs to be combined with the taskbar button for "program B" (in this case, Thunderbird.exe).
I suspect the solution would be to make the ThunderbirdPortable.exe icon slightly different, so it would be obvious that one is a shortcut to the launcher, while the other is the taskbar button for the actual program. It would be one more reminder to people that when they click on the PortableApps.com version, they are starting a launcher which in turn starts the "real" program.
MC
You have pinned the launcher. That is just the launcher not the real program.
Example:
When you start a program you will see in Task Manager
*insert app name here*.exe
AND
*insert app name here*Portable.exe (ex: ClamWin.exe and ClamWinPortable.exe)
The real program is the app.exe. appPortable.exe is just a launcher that starts the program and it is used for making it portable (taking care of temps, registry.)
So in the Superbar you will see the shortcut for the launcher, the one you have pinned (appPortable.exe) AND the icon of the working app (app.exe).
Workaround: The programs here are portable. They are best used from portable storage. If you use them from your hard drive it would be best if you would install the normal program not the portable one because the normal one doesn't neet to take care of portablilty, etc.
PS: the real bug is that is shows the launcher as a shortcut although it is running. :))

I suppose the ABCPortable.exe uses the ExecWait command to launch ABC.exe so, in that way, it might not be a bug after all.
Maybe adding the HideWindow after the Function bits of the NSIS code might help? (Don't know if it's already used).
EDIT: it's not used (CTRL + F on the draft page returned no results)
It seems all this thread was dedicated to the loving memory of Captain Obvious.
I just wanted to ask are you going to support the "superbar"?
We can't. Microsoft has given us no possible way of supporting apps that utilize more than one EXE within the "superbar". I'd suggest contacting them to report this shortcoming.
