NOTE: When reading this post please bare in mined that I am a total beginner...
All the linux's on pendrivelinux.com have failed me in one way or another. Either from just not booting for my computers or ram requirements are to high [min for me is no more than 150MB] for places I am like to be using it.
However I have found these two which look promising and I am currently downloading them...

To be honest, I would be surprised if you could successfully boot from USB at all on a PC old enough to only have 150Mb or RAM. That long ago, the BIOS support for booting from USB devices was tentative at best.
Good luck though, some PCs will manage it
Try Puppy Linux, a lightning fast, lightweight Linux variant, under 100 MB in size. Works just great on my old computer equipped with 128 MB RAM.
Been there done that! It's not bad but no auto internet connection!
one of my computers can.
of current computers will support direct booting from usb stick standard partition. Some more could boot from kind of virtual floppy image on a stick.
