OK I'm not a programmer so I did check there but I didn't spot anything that looked like an obvious programming language to me... the only I see now is Visual Studio - does that mean it's coded in VB?

That usually means C++. Most software is programmed in that. The current VB (everything after 6) isn't portable due to its .NET requirement.
