Pidgin: MSN protocol fails

Hello.

I am posting here after a few months with the same issue.
Last version I get connected to MSN is 2.4.3

If version is higher (2.5.4 is the last I tested), MSN connection
fails, with message:

Connection error from Notification server:
Reading error

All others protocols I use go fine: GTalk, ICQ, AOL, Yahoo, Jabber.

Only MSN fails (repeat: 2.4.3 go fine now too).

Any suggestion to get new version working in MSN ?

Thanks and regards

Eduardo.

Settings

MSN has been working fine in the new release (2.5.4 was specifically to fix another change Microsoft made to lockout some IM clients). Perhaps your settings are messed up. Try deleting your account on MSN within Pidgin and recreating it. Or, if you're worried about losing something, install a new copy of Pidgin Portable and create your account in there.

Also, you may be behind a firewall and have to use the HTTP method.

Either way, it's not Pidgin itself, it's something with your setup. I'm connected to MSN using Pidgin right now.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

MSN fails behind proxy

I have the same problem as Aduart. MSN fails and http-method isn't working. I used to work behind the corporate firewall with the help of a local port forward (localhost:8080) that tunneled (SSH) the msn-traffic to an external proxy-server, but it failed a couple of weeks ago.

From what I've gathered it's not pidgins fault but more the MSN-protocol that sucks big time. This plugin kind of solved my issues:
