New to portable Apps need some advice re:email

From what Ihave read I understand that I can load a flash drive with Portable Apps which includes Fire fox email

My question is this once I have the email provider on my flash drive do I have to set up an account in the same way as I did on my computer

Once set up can I then send and receive emails from someone elses computer using the portable Apps email

can I use another computer even though that computer has no email installed

Firefox isn't an email

Firefox isn't an email client. you need Thunderbird. Now for thunderbird at first launch it will provide you an option to add an account Wink

Yes..

Yes... as long as your other computer's connected to the internet.

But it's called Thunderbird Portable

Fire fox email

Firefox is a web browser and yes it will allow you to access your email IF your email provider supports webmail. To access your email, regardless of new or sent you will need a pc with access to the Internet.

Thunderbird is an email client. It will allow you to receive and send emails so long as it is used on a pc with Internet access. It will also allow you to read emails you have received and saved on the USB device regardless of Internet access. And it will allow you to create new emails to be sent when you connect to a pc with Internet access.

Regardless of app you choose you will have to create an account on it to access your email.

No

No, I was referring to web access to email provided by ISPs like RoadRunner and Frontiernet and etc. Most major ISPs in the USA provide the webmail option. Some you have to specifically signup for the option, others allow you to use their web mail capability by simply signing on with it.

flash drive

I've been using PortableApps on a 2 GB flash drive. I keep several work files and folders there, too. It's a great way to do your work when you're traveling.....except for some places that block flash drives, like military installations.

My Q: When I created the flash drive, I had about 800MB of free space. Now I have 133MB. Mail trash and sent files are cleaned out. No new work files [at least nothing over 100K and not many of them] were added. Firefox was also cleaned. Where did all the space go? How can I regain my space?

Space

My A: There is a small program called SpaceMonger - which can even be run from a flash drive - that can give you a graphic image of the use of space on your drive: Large files show up as large rectangles. The makers recommend that you buy the latest version, I think the old version 1.4.0 - which is free - is better.

Better yet, use the free and porable WinDirStat, which does essentially the same thing as the app above.
