VLC: Vista will not remember file associations

Vista refuses to remember VLC Portable as a program for filetypes. All other PortableApps work. Has anyone else had this problem?

I've had this issue with several apps on Vista. Have you tried running it as an administrator and associating the files from within the program itself? This is usually the problem I encounter. Obviously, if this is the problem, there isn't much you can do about it, but if it DOESN'T work, then there's probably some kind of bug.

hm

haven't had that trouble.. but then again I open the program then 'drag and drop' the file into it, because if using Portableapps on some else's computer I don't think it's wise to make file associations.

Are you using PA regularly on your own system?

Yes

Yes, I use PA regularly. I was referring to file associations in general, with locally installed apps. I remember having this issue with both VLC and 7-zip local installs, and a few others, just not coming to mind at the moment. Actually with VLC it might have been because VLC does not have a 64-bit release... not sure... I agree with not associating filetypes with portable applications, I was simply pointing out that the issue might be in the app itself and not in the portablization and giving one test to try that might reveal whether this was the case.
