Hi everyone. Yeah, i know...a NEWBIE! i've searched and read everything i could find on this, and nothing quite works. Also i'm not computer savy...other than data entry....so file type "speak" and other lingo goes way over my head!
I've recently dumped MS Outlook in favor of Thunderbird w/lightning on my desktop. I've entered all my addresses & address books, appointments, daily logs in the calendar, etc. ,but as far as syncing to the portable usb drive, i've only been able to install the portable program w/lightning extension and that's it.
does anyone know a step by step way to sync ALL the data on these two versions? I would be syncing constantly, as i make changes on the desktop version...and make sure the portable version matches exactly...when i leave the house.
Thanks so much in advance! PS i have downloaded the PortableApps Platform too, and Toucan is included in it (however trying to understand how to use it is like trying to understand ancient Martian!)
Sincerely, me...
Toucan is easy to use once you have it worked out
I believe it would be the "equalize" operation that you want, with the first path being "C:\Users\[you]\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\profiles\[random].default\" on Vista or "C:\Documents and Settings\[you]\Application Data\Thunderbird\profiles\[random].default\" on XP (replace [you] with your Windows username and [random] with the real name of the folder, it's randomly generated).
The second path would be "@drive@\PortableApps\ThunderbirdPortable\Data\profile"
If you need any more help, just ask here.
Additionally, I've deleted your bump. Bumping threads is bad form.

Hi Ryan, thanks so much for your help!!! I put in those paths and I ended up with data in my portable version! I'm thrilled to death...i was really frustrated.
so now on can i just hit the "equalise" button on that job in order to sync the two programs from either side? I'll probably adding to both programs on a daily basis.
Also, sorry about the "bumping" ...had no idea it was bad form, we do it all the time on the social forums i go on, so i didn't know.
Thanks again!
PS can i do this same thing with the local and portable versions of "Task Coach"??
I just re-entered my portable TB and it said that i was opening it in a "read-only" location ... and that i could put a temporary copy on my hard drive to open it. Do you know what this means and if i need to change something? Thanks...this just happened
