Updated to 1.0.4

Pre-Release 1 (2009-02-19): Initial release

This is a major rewrite of the launcher and it uses the latest installer (I hope) so please test it thoroughly!

BUG: There is one bug within the program: It doesn't save the settings. So you start at the same spot every time. Unfortunately it's a bug in the installed version too so I can't do anything about it. But it keeps your Nickname.

It looks like my using a few system and registry cleaners before testing this may have affected the Regshot. Hopefuully though you can still use this. I ran AssaultCube Portable in unwindowed mode and played a couple bot matches. Had no playability issues. Hopefully the regshot will show no portability issues.

(only in seldom cases i think) ... then .\App\assaultcube\bin_win32\vcredist_x86.exe must be installed

Works great

Unlike AssaultCube Portable .93 though, it gets really slow in some places... any idea how to speed it up a little?

Big bug,

the game is great - works on my computer and everything.

But the moment I try to put it on my usb and open it on another computer it wont load - i get the portable apps menu screen, but then it just closes on me.

It seems it just wasnt made to be portable

I'm not usually such a suck up, but wow...

It works fine for me.

Are you on Vista? AssaultCube was made for XP and older operating systems (for Windows). Also for macs and linux. I don't know why its like that though.

EDIT: I just found out that it works great on Windows Vista Business

The game loads and works fine but I get messages saying "cannot load images from..." or "cannot load skin from..."

Any ideas why?

Jpg files missing

I noticed this as well. There appear to be some jpegs missing.
I have also noticed that when you have finished a game and it moves to a new map all the teams are empty. You need to select the game from the menu to repopulate it with team members and/or opponents. This might be inherent in the game itself; I haven't checked.

Yes

They are missing in the standard release too. So there is not really something I can do about it.

I only know the game

with these messages appearing. So I don't really know how it is like without them.
If it works normal? I think/hope so but I don't know for sure.
Why they pop up in both of them? Thats because they are missing in both of them.

I´ll go home later and recheck to make sure.

Regarding the jpegs.

Which ones seem to be missing and where?

I started working on making the game portable just today (not knowing you started a long time ago ^_^), downloading a fresh copy this morning and I don't believe I've had any problems with the missing images. I could be wrong, but if you can tell me what's missing or where those images would show up at, I can look and see if they've been added to the download yet.

I've got more work to do on the app itself anyway, so I may stumble over it eventually, but at least if I know what to look for, I might be able to try to find them somewhere.

ps. I'm new to this (actually first app I've tried to make portable and been moderately successful with) though this one seems to be mostly portable to begin with. Only problem thus was an old laptop with driver issues. All else has been fine. Still more testing (or fragging if you will) to do though.

Played for about 3 hours straight today

and never had an issue with missing jpegs. Never got a notification during gameplay. Also, noticing on their site they have the 1.0.2 full version then the 1.0.4 upgrade. It's possible that they were missing files in the 1.0.2 for a while. As of now it appears that's been fixed, so you may check it that way. I didn't get problems like the jpeg problem when I was using 1.0.2 yesterday when I downloaded it. Else, there are some image files in the upgrade, should there still have been some missing in the full release.

Haven't tried yours out. I did notice, in 1.0.2, my portable version worked flawlessly. When I attempted an upgrade to 1.0.4 it started writing the user files to the my documents folder. It basically undid the install setting that you can set initially to write everything to the program files folder. Disturbing. assuming you've got that fixed, I'll probably try fiddling around on yours after I get done with some other stuff.

I've been playing this one for some days now every now and then on various systems. I didn't encounter any problems, except on my oldest notebook, but that is a driver problem I already know!

I had the in-game message about the missing JPGs, too. I downloaded the game from the original developers site and had the same message again!

If you ask me: Let this go official!

very good game

this game just great !!!!
1 thing:
I'm playing death match and there are too much of spawn kills
try to put the spawn somewhere without enemies
and still thanks its very good game!!

Lags horribly

It's not a gameplay issue, assuming this build is based on the most recent version. Any time I log into an online game running Assault Cube Portable off of my flash drive, I get only a few frames per second. Without the flash drive, it's smooth as can be. Bot battles, and blank maps run fine, too.

No problems with that!

Check back if it's a USB2.0 connection you got. I know that from my old notebook I had some similar problems with other apps running them from a USB1.0 or 1.1.

Simlple, really

When I start Assault Cube, I set the screen settings to 1366x768 in fullscreen (my native resolution). In that session on the program, the fullscreen holds, but if I exit the program and enter it again, I have a 1366x768 window.

First of all I would just say that this game is cool. Well i had some problems with it at initial but it got recovered with time. I am quite fascinated about online games too and just a superb game I always love to play is the Skies of war which is just full of action & thrill.
