So far seems to happen after you open the Options.
The whole PAM menu flickers as you mouseover any link.
When I say "flicker", I mean that for a millisecond, the desktop is visible through the menu.
If you close the menu, and wait 2-3 minutes, it behaves normally.
any clue?

Somewhat off-topic, but this seems to happen in ASuite as well. Only on XP (or Vista/7 with Aero disabled), though.
What else do you have running? Do you have menu fade enabled (now off by default)? Do you have alpha transparency on? Are you using ObjectDock or a similar alternate launcher? Are any other Windows on your screen set as topmost?
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
I'm running on XP SP3. It was happening whether or not I had any windows open. I usually don't have a large number of resident apps running, only Avast! and Citrus Alarm Clock, neither of which caused problems with 1.1. I left the default values for fade and alpha. I was playing a bit with renaming apps, and trying to get the OOo main app launcher to show by playing with the appinfo.ini, but I don't think that was it.
There is a similar effect that I still see, but it only happens in this specific circumstance:
When you click on Backup, Options, Search or Help, their submenus flicker once when opening.
Since it isn't happening now, I'm not sure what caused it in the first place.
I was hoping that someone else saw this, too.
If it happens again, I'll post again.

As I said above, this happens to me with ASuite on XP as well. And like your issue, it was intermittent there as well--I couldn't reliably reproduce it. And it doesn't happen on Vista or Win7 with Aero turned on... strange. Must be something these menus are doing that GDI and/or the window manager doesn't like...
