I know that it is possible to create a portable, "stand-alone" version of a program using Universal Extractor and WinRAR. A tutorial on how to do that can be found at:
http://www.ehow.com/how_4742635_application-portable.html
I was wondering if it were possible to complete that same task using 7-Zip. I do not know if there are specific parameters that must be used or if it is not possible at all. I would much rather create a portable program as shown in the tutorial I linked above but use 7-Zip in place of WinRAR, as I am more comfortable with that program and I prefer it.
Does anyone know if such a feat is plausible? Please let me know what you think.

A> This method does not create a portable version of the app. I don't know much but I know that article should be taken down before to many people make the mistakes of usig that unfounded mathod and leave bits of info and registry keys all over the pcs they use. Basically, this wont make a portable application. When you run the application on the USB on a different pc it will leave a whole lot of stuff on it that you don't want to.
B> Pretty much anything WinRar can do, 7Zip can do

Except for modifying own archives (unless you checked "non-solid" option), quickly extracting them and adding ECC.
But this guide is so wrong....another site on my blacklist.
OT: I found a forum bug. If I add 2 newlines one after another, Drupal compresses them to 1.
"Those people who think they know everything are a great annoyance to those of us who do." Asimov
I don't see that
not on these lines...
Which lines was it you tried? (me talk good some day)
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Sentence 1.
Sentence 2.
I separated 1 and 2 with 2 newlines, Drupal cut 1 of them.

It's set to eliminate extra white space. So you can't have multiple new lines within comments and forum posts. I thought you'd meant it had combined two lines of type you did and separated with only a single end of line.

It doesn't make a program portable. What it does is to extract the files to Temp folder and run it. Many programs can/will run when uniextracted and running the main executable but it will not work on programs that are really really big, complicated and relies heavily on registry.
You could do that in 7-zip but i don't know those parameters, commands and stuff. You can also do that using NSIS and any simple macro, programming language out there.
If you want to create portableapps easily, you can use PAC, or thinapp.
